Freezing Israeli Settlements in the Occupied Territories
Yesterday in the House of Commons you took issue with Martin Linton (Battersea, Labour) in a debate about Israeli settlements in the Occupied Territories* for ignoring 'progress' that, you say, Israel is making on this issue.

Optimism in a Time of Recession
Letter from Toby Green of the Green Party to the Shrewsbury Chronicle. Published 04 December 2008
As the current economic crisis pushes the world's economies into recession, people in Shrewsbury and around the world are asking themselves how we have possibly got here.

Shouldn't the Driver's VOICE Also Have EARS?
Recent debate on the Shropshire Star website

Peter Roberts, whose online petition gained more than 1.8 million signatures, is launching a national pressure group, the DRIVERS’ ALLIANCE to ‘give a voice to drivers’. Huw Peach believes this organisation can only truly claim to represent those drivers, who still dispute anthropogenic global warming in the face of overwhelming evidence (ie a tiny percentage of the public).

A Relief From the Road
Letter from Toby Green, Secretary of the Mid and North Shropshire Green Party, printed in the Shrewsbury Chronicle, 12 June 2008
With summer around the corner, many people are worrying about the high price of fuel and growing food prices here and around the world. This is of course a particular concern in Shropshire with its rural character and the greater distances required to get around than in more urban areas.

A 'Splendid' Denial of Climate Change?
Correspondence between Huw Peach of the Green Party and Clive Crook of the Financial Times (who considered Nigel Lawson's latest book, denying that climate change was a problem, was 'splendid'), beginning 15 April 2008
In your review of Dominic Lawson's new book in yesterday's FT, you said, 'The recent warming trend seems to have paused since 2000 - the models did not predict that.' I would be most grateful if you could give me the source of this statement.

Battlefield Incinerator
Keith O'Neill of the Green Party in Shropshire recently wrote to the Shrewsbury Chronicle about Shropshire County Council's plans for a waste incinerator at Battlefield in Shrewsbury. Follow the link below to read the letter as printed.
The Green Party believes that the thrust of waste management policy should be three-pronged: to REDUCE consumption; to RE-USE items where possible and to RECYCLE any leftover materials. The introduction of an incinerator will substantially reduce the incentives to do so.

Putting More Words in Our Mouths
Correspondence between Huw Peach of the Green Party and Peter Kitchen, relating to Mr Kitchen's mis-quotation of Huw's words in his Shrewsbury Chronicle article, 29 February 2008

I am writing to complain about the quotation you ascribed to me in yesterday's Chronicle. As you can see from the e-mail below, I never referred to the SBC poll as 'undemocratic'.

Putting Words in Our Mouths

I am writing to you in response to your comments on page 2 of this week's Shrewsbury Chronicle. You said 'We have had an email from the Green Party saying they feel our poll is undemocratic ......' As the press officer for the local Green Party, I am interested in this email, because it did NOT come from me. Nor has it come from local activists.

Scrutinising the Scrutineers: Part 2
Daniel Kawczynski MP's letter, received on 5 March, in reply to Huw Peach's letter of 10 December 2007, plus Huw's response, 5 March 2008
Climate change is one of the greatest challenges facing the world today. It is as much a social and economic threat as it is an ecological one. We all need to do our bit as individuals, in business and in Government and I agree it is paramount we take measures to tackle climate change now.

Green and Blue - a 'Progressive Alliance'?
I was intrigued and slightly bemused by David Cameron’s call to the Green Party, last Saturday, to join the Conservatives in a ‘progressive alliance’ to re-shape British politics.

Scrutinising the Scrutineers
I was intrigued by your statement that 'Conservatives are leading Parliamentary efforts to ensure that Britain’s response to this crisis is both ambitious and effective.' This was intriguing to me because I spent this afternoon at the Environment and Economy Scrutiny Panel in the Shire Hall, watching local Conservative Councillors apparently doing the complete opposite.

Incompatible Objectives
Keith O'Neill's printed letter to the Independent, 4 December 2007
John Stewart is right to challenge Dominic Lawson's view that fighting climate change and remaining economically competitive are incompatible objectives (Letter, 28 November).

Not a Lifestyle Choice
Keith O'Neill's printed letter to the Independent, 19 November 2007
Professor Anthony Trevavas claims that choosing organic food and drink is a “lifestyle” choice (Letter, 14 November). I disagree.

Shopping Miles for Christmas
Keith O'Neill's printed letter to the Independent, 10 November 2007
I was bitterly disappointed to read the article in which you recommended that shoppers travel to the United States to do their Christmas shopping (Why it’s time to fly out for some American bargains, 3rd November).

Convenient Inaccuracy?

I am a British teacher who showed Mr Gore's film in my school in Shropshire earlier this year as part of the research phase for a climate change conference which I organised.
