Battlefield Incinerator
Keith O'Neill of the Green Party in Shropshire recently wrote to the Shrewsbury Chronicle about Shropshire County Council's plans for a waste incinerator at Battlefield in Shrewsbury. Follow the link below to read the letter as printed.

Anti-Plastic Bag Petition
People in Britain use an average of 300 plastic bags every year. Each bag lasts up to 400 years, spending the vast majority of that time in a landfill site or strewn across the British countryside.

SABC, as the planning authority, part owner of the best town-centre development site for SSFC (the Barker Street car park next to the Learning Centre, which already has planning permission), and developer of the new theatre, should do its utmost to facilitate a way for SSFC to stay in the town centre with expanded and improved facilities. This would be a priority for Green councilors on SABC.

Coal mining plan for Telford
UK Coal is planning to extract 900,000 tonnes of coal from an open cast mine at the foot of the Wrekin.

A congestion charge for Shrewsbury?
Debate is hotting up about the idea that “congestion charging” could be brought in as part of the solution to Shrewsbury’s traffic problems.

The Shrewsbury North West Relief Road
Shrewsbury already has a by-pass that encompasses the north-east, south-east and south-west of the town. The pro-road lobby want to "close the circle" by creating a new link around the north-west quadrant. The local Green Party are vehemently opposed to this proposal on a number of grounds:
